Everyone loves a bit of girl power and self love, but would you go so far as to marry yourself?

I love getting the chance to catch up with reading on holiday, and my summer read for my last cruise was Sophie Tanner’s “Reader, I married Me!“, a seriously feel good read that shows anyone can be the hero of their own story even in the most unexpected of ways!

You might have guessed the plot from the title, but are you thinking it sounds far fetched?
Sophie Tanner, the author of the book actually tied the knot to herself in a “sologamist” ceremony. White wedding dress, bridesmaids, the whole shebang!
So what is sologamy anyway? And is it even legal in the UK? Well, both Sophie in real life and Chloe in the book had to find this out!
Marriage is traditionally between two people, where you promise to love each other to the exclusion of everyone else – well, sologamy is basically promising to love yourself til death do you part!
Is it about giving up relationships with other people? Hell no!

Introducing Chloe…
The main character in the book is Chloe Usher, a digital marketer and travel blogger who just isn’t that lucky in love (it’s a good job I don’t live in Brighton or I’d feel personally attacked!). Her dirtbag of a boyfriend messes her around something rotten, her flatmate is a cow and she works with some questionably ass licking characters. One night, over a bit too much gin (there goes me feeling personally attacked again!) Chloe decides that enough is enough and that she is going to own loving herself in a unique but perfect way – by marrying herself.
Of course, announcing something like that is bound to upset the apple cart just a tad (not to mention your ex, friends and colleagues!) – the book explores how Chloe owns her decision, stands up for herself and lets the UK know exactly how much she loves herself on morning television! Of course, it’s not all easy – poor Chloe has some serious battles to face and a lot of hurdles to overcome before she can get her happily ever after with herself.
I’m sure I can speak for everyone when I say you WILL recognise the characters in this book. You might see a bit of yourself in Chloe, I hope you see some of your friends in there, and you’ll definitely recognise that cow in the office!
I think what that shows is that, even if you’d never consider marrying yourself, it’s actually super easy to get why someone would. We’re all great these days at talking the big talk about why you should love yourself and appreciate yourself, despite your flaws – as great as a lot of us are at raising other women up though, maybe we really should take a moment to look in the mirror and tell yourself how great you are.
Go on, make a promise to yourself. Promise to love thyself, cherish thyself, and what the hell – promise to pleasure thyself!
