Hi, I’m Francesca
I’ve loved travelling for as long as I can remember, although during my first years in the sunshine I probably had much less appreciation for cultures, architecture and scenery, and considerably more interest in the amount of ice cream I could eat and the quality of my sandcastle building.
That being said, the one thing I’ve always been is a foodie. Pretty much the only thing I remember about my Year 6 SATs exams was writing very passionately about the Spanish dish paella – all swirling flamenco skirts, colourful imagery and mouthwatering smells.
So perhaps it was inevitable that food would become such a big part of how I experience the world.
In 2016, I started experimenting with going gluten-free. What followed was a whole lot of learning, plenty of questions and many tests for Coeliac Disease. I’m now firmly convinced that I feel much better when I’m gluten-free (which, as you can imagine, throws a bit of a spanner in the works when you’re someone who loves to travel and eat your way around the world.)
And that’s where Gluten Free Horizons comes in.
I created this site to share my wanderings, ponderings and, most importantly, the gluten-free food I find along the way. From cruise ships and city breaks to restaurants, supermarkets and the occasional spectacular dessert, I’m figuring out how to travel well without gluten – and sharing what I discover along the way.
This isn’t about being an expert or having all the answers. It’s about real experiences, honest reviews and making gluten-free travel feel a little less daunting and a lot more exciting.
