After the shocker that has been 2020, the UK is looking forward to spreading a bit of Christmas cheer and enjoying the festive season. While some may have saved money this year by not going out, some of us may have spent more jazzing up home offices etc – that’s why it’s important to get the absolute best value out of your Christmas shop, getting everything you need for an amazing Christmas without breaking the bank. I went down to my local Jack’s Supermarket and managed to get everything for a gluten free Christmas dinner feast for under £40! Read on to see how I got on and how to build the perfect gluten free cheeseboard this Christmas!
First up, who are Jack’s Supermarket?
Jack’s is British discount supermarket chain owned by Tesco, aiming to provide the best quality family favourites at the best prices. Most of the store is Jack’s own range of products but you might also spot some of Britain’s Favourite Brands for those items where you want a specific label. You might also spot a couple of Tesco branded items at the moment due to the disruption caused by Covid-19 – they’re making sure shelves stay full if the Jack’s version is unavailable, so you’re not disappointed.
What can you expect from gluten free Christmas dinner food at Jack’s Supermarket?

I’ve written about gluten free food at Jack’s before, and this Christmas it continues to be easy to find everything you could want for your gluten free Christmas dinner.
Jack’s works with over 300 farmers, growers and producers to stock their shelves with the best produce and flavours from all over the UK. 100% of Jack’s fresh turkey, chicken, beef and lamb is British, and so there’s plenty of choice for quality protein on your dinner plate.
There’s all the veggies you could want too – Jack’s offers a full range of fruit and veg. At the front of the store you’ll find a “Fresh Five” section year round – this features five reduced fruit and veg so you can pick up your favourites for less.
So, let’s look at what you can fill your basket with. Of course it wouldn’t be Christmas without turkey – Jack’s stock whole birds and crowns perfect for every size of family. Inviting the bubble round? Jack’s British Whole Turkeys will feed 10 people at £2.89 per kg.
Need something for an early or late Christmas? My local Jack’s had Bernard Matthews Whole Turkeys in the freezer section.
Jack’s turkey’s and turkey crowns come into stock 19th December – make sure you don’t miss out on the chance to snap them up!
If Turkey isn’t your thing, don’t worry, there are plenty of other options, included half legs of British lamb at £5.49 per kg, half shoulders joint of lamb at £4.99 per kg and beef roasting join with basting fat at £5.49 per kg. If you prefer fish for Christmas, a half salmon side is £10 per kg. We picked up a gorgeous pork loin joint for our early Christmas dinner.
It wouldn’t be a dinner plate without the trimmings. As well as picking up the essentials lile fresh broccoli carrots, parsnips, potatoes and sprouts, you can pick up what you need for for those extra festive gluten free side dishes.
Jack’s sausages are gluten free, so why not pick up a pack of 6 Cumberland Sausages and a pack of bacon and whip up some juicy pigs in blankets.
Gluten Free Pigs in Blankets
Ingredients
- 6 x Jack's Cumberland Sausages (they're gluten free!)
- 1 x pack of smoked bacon
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven as per the instructions on the sausages (usually 180 in a fan oven)
2. Wrap each of your sausages in bacon - if they're full size sausages you might need two slices of bacon (go on, it's Christmas!)
3. Place on a baking tray and cook in the oven for about 30 mins until they're nice and golden and your bacon is crispy and delicious
4. Enjoy as part of an amazing gluten free Christmas dinner!
Notes
For extra yumminess, brush your sausages with a bit of a honey mustard mixture before popping them in the oven.

It wouldn’t be a Christmas dinner plate without stuffing either! They also have gluten free Aah Bisto Gravy Granules in the gluten free aisle, and stock Doves Farm gluten free plain white flour if you’re making your own gravy.

Onto the sweet treats
After that richness you need something sweet right? Jack’s Toffee and Pecan roulade is an amaaazing swirl of meringue decorated with pecan nut pieces and dulce de leche sauce and is perfect for a gluten free Christmas dessert.
So – picture the scene. Here’s how to build the perfect gluten free cheese board.

Start with your cheeses – try to go for a variety – go for a soft cheese like Brie, a semi-hard cheese like Cheddar and a crumbly cheese like Wensleydale. I also added a ramekin of mozzarella balls with sun dried tomatoes for a gorgeous burst of Mediterranean flavour.
Next, add a bit of charcuterie. I added a pack of Jack’s Continental Selection. This contains a mild and sweet Prosciutto, a rich and tender Salami Milano and a smokey and spicy Chorizo.
For a variety of taste and texture, add some savoury elements and crunch. As well as the sun-dried tomatoes, I added some pitted black and green olives, plus some cornichons and pickled onions – you could also add some mixed nuts.
Add in something sweet like grapes to add some contrast, and finally don’t forget your crackers and bread. Jack’s have some plain crackers in the Free From section – they also have gluten free breads like Warburtons Gluten Free Tiger Bread which is lovely with a charcuterie board.
Want something extra special? Try Jack’s Baking Camembert with caramelised onion and herb chutney. This super gooey treat is perfect with the gluten free Tiger bread!
