On my Sky Princess Norway & Iceland cruise myself and my family stayed in a balcony cabin on deck 9, Dolphin deck. Here’s a little overview of the cabin and why it’s one of the best balcony cabins to book on Sky Princess!
What does balcony or suite cabin mean in cruises?
I’ve spoken to a few people looking to book their first cruise, and they often wonder, “Are balcony cabins worth it?” – the answer I have to always give them is a resounding YES! Cruises offer some of the best views at sea and pretty much the first thing I do of a morning is go out onto the balcony, and often enjoy a cup of tea there on sunny sea days. Our cruise to the fjords meant waking up to some incredible views as well, even once it got chillier in Iceland. More than anything though I’d say having a balcony is immensely practical if you are traveling with three or four of you in a cabin – it gives you extra space to sit while others are getting ready for example. Not to mention you can usually book breakfast or dinner on your balcony on most ships!
While the definition of a balcony cabin is pretty standard, you may find some ships have different size balconys than others (scroll down for a comparison of the types of balcony cabins), and as we’ve seen the balcony size here is bigger even within it’s own cabin category.
How big is a balcony cabin on Sky Princess?
A balcony stateroom on Sky Princess is approximately 222 square foot, usually with an approximately 41 square foot private balcony.
As you’ll see from the video above though, we had a much bigger balcony. That’s because cabin D701 was above a mini suite, which means the extra space occupied by cabin below instead occupied by extra balcony space (if you’re familiar with the grand class ships, the same rules apply to C deck balconies!).

The Sky Princess deck plan screenshot below show the aft cabins in grey that this applies to. Further back and on the aft, those blue coloured cabins also have the same large balcony however are “Premium Deluxe Balconies” – I’ve also stayed in one of those cabins on Sky Princess, and the extra space and sofa bed rather than bunk bed was great.

What is the difference between Balcony Stateroom and Premium Deluxe Balcony Stateroom on Sky Princess?
Confused on whether to book a balcony vs a Deluxe Balcony? Or wondering to yourself, “It’s a special cruise, is a premium deluxe balcony on Sky Princess worth it?”. The main difference between balcony and premium balcony staterooms are the size of the main cabin itself, plus the addition of a sofa-bed.
