I’m sure we all notice that our skin can get a hell of a lot duller and drier come winter time – for those of us with eczema, the fear of flaky skin is all the worse!
I’ve been really struggling with facial eczema in recent months – a bit of a flare up coupled with some PUVA therapy I was going through left me in a right state, needing to exfoliate everyday and peeling like crazy!
Thankfully a short burst of using some topical steroid cream cleared that right up, and since then I’ve been trying my best to stay on top of a regular moisturising routine. I’ve never paid much mind to beauty gurus talking about serums before, being far too used to my prescribed lotions and potions – that is until I discovered hyaluronic acid (more about that in a mo!). Now, I’m all over this new way of looking at my skincare!
I’ve recently been sent some goodies from the Pro Co to try – 3 vegan serums to help keep your skin glowing!
20% Vitamin C Serum with Hyaluronic Acid
What is hyaluronic acid? Well, it naturally occurs in your skin, and helps to to maintain moisture levels in the skin – as we know, hydrated skin automatically looks a hell of a lot smoother, healthier and glowier!
Fun fact, 1 gram of Hyaluronic Acid can actually hold up to six LITRES of water…I don’t get how, but either way it makes my skin happy!
So, this Vit C Serum is pretty perfect for helping to improve your skin’s firmness, decrease age spots, even out skin tone and increase your skin’s radiance!
It’s early days to comment on the age spots, but thus far I’m fairly impressed.
The serum is designed to be used twice a day (morning and night) after cleansing- just massage it in, leave it to sink in for a couple of minutes then follow it up with your usual moisturiser. The serum has a really nice gingery, citrusy smell – is it possible for skincare to smell cosy?!
Eye Rescue Serum
This Eye Rescue Serum is another day and night solution, aiming to help to fade dark circles, improve your circulation and sooth contours – I work in a pretty stressful job and struggle sleeping through the night so I’ll take all the help I can get! This serum contains Cocoa Butter, Seaweed and Grape Seed to give your under eyes a boost – familiar ingredients in skincare, however I am being cautious as I tend to be very sensitive around the eyes. So far so good though!
7% Micro Encapsulated Retinol Serum
Retinol is something I hadn’t come across that much, but upon googling I found it seems to basically be Vitamin A! It’s used in skincare serums and creams because of its ability to speed up collagen production and stimulating skin cell renewal.
This Retinol Serum claims to counteract wrinkles, lower irritation and offer enhanced penetration.
Because retinol is quite a strong serum and can cause dryness and irritation if you use it too much, I have to admit I’ve not tried this on yet just in case it triggers my eczema (the minute party season is over I’m right on it!) – from testing on my hand it feels ok, it does however have a bit more of a medical smell to it – not totally unpleasant though and of course you are only using one or two drops at a time.
Where to buy!
These 3 UK made serums are all suitable for vegans, with no animal testing, and the company is setting out to make a name for themselves in caring for the environment.
