Coming home from holiday to parcels is always exciting, especially when it’s something like this! We arrived home from our British Isles cruise to find an early gluten free Fathers Day treat had arrived.

The cake comes in a cute tin that I have no doubt my dad will use for bits and bobs in his greenhouse, which kept the cake fresh and safe – considering it’s been at the mercy of the Royal Mail I was surprised that it arrived so intact!

How Did It Taste?

So full disclosure, my dad isn’t gluten free, I’m the only one in the household that is. But I’m stubborn as hell and refuse to miss out on cakes, so generally speaking all sweet treats in the house are Francesca-friendly!

So, you have you have two opinions.

Here’s what the man himself thinks – “It was a lovely surprise and a nice little mouthful to go with my morning coffee….I wouldn’t have known it was gluten free if you hadn’t had told me, bearing in mind how….”gluten free” some of your snacks have tastest! “

My mum had some and also agreed that you wouldn’t guess that it’s gluten free – I’m always curious what they think as let’s face it, your standards change a little bit as you get used to gluten free food textures!

The cake is small (of course it is, it’s come through the post) but perfectly formed. It’s got a nice sponge texture and a layer of jam under the icing to add a yummy bit of moisture. There’s the right amount of icing too – that type you get with printed designs is often way too thick for my taste, but the balance was just right.
