Sick of cooking? Or looking for something a bit different? Fancy getting a taste of dining out on holiday in the comfort and safety of your own home? Liverpool foodie institution Delifonseca is on a quest to give diners a culinary trip around the world from the comfort of their own dining rooms.

The team, led by Candice Fonseca, launched their ‘Date Night’ concept in April 2020 during the first lockdown.

When the second lockdown hit in October, they took feedback on board and tweaked things, and the concept evolved into the current ‘Dine at Home’ format available not just on Saturday nights but from Wednesdays onwards. The menu changes from week to week to give diners a taste of different cuisines and styles of cooking.

Proprietor Candice said: “The last twelve months have certainly been challenging for businesses like ours, however we have continued to adapt and extend our offering. Our customers are, and always have been, at the forefront of everything that we do so it’s been really good for our chefs in the kitchen to create menus that go beyond the typical Saturday night takeaway.

“Restaurant closures have really affected self-confessed foodies and they have really missed that eating out experience; this concept hopefully fills that void in some way and gives them an opportunity to look forward to their weekly treat meal. It’s great that there is a real enjoyment of that sense of occasion even when things are a little less normal at the moment. We’ve also been careful to choose themes and cooking styles not readily available from other local independent restaurants.”

Since the Dine at Home Club concept began, Delifonseca has fed over 5,000 people throughout the Liverpool City Region with themes including Pacific Rim, where Australia/West Coast US meets Asia, Thanksgiving and Classic French Week.

In the coming weeks, they plan to feature concepts including Northern Africa and ‘Food Lovers’ Valentine’s.

Candice added: “We’ve had to adapt and change our business continuously since the pandemic began back in March last year to make sure that we offered our customers what they needed at different times. Our deli has stayed open throughout and although it has been extremely challenging for the team and I, we could not have done it without the support we’ve received.

“We as a business are so grateful that even during tough times like the current climate, our customers are continuing to shop locally and support us, giving us a fighting chance at surviving one of the most difficult periods for our industry to date.”
