I’ve suffered with eczema and dry skin pretty much all my life, and these days I’m stuck in an annoying cycle of flareups. Some days my skin will be looking ok and, and some days I want to scratch it until I bleed, so I do. That leaves it being a itchy, scabby, horrible mess. Having gone through so many types of treatment including oral steroids, topical steroids, UVB and PUVA light therapy and of course am always up for trying eczema friendly moisturisers. I’ve come across people recommending MooGoo for eczema prone dry skin before, so was really excited to try it out.
First off, what is MooGoo?
MooGoo skincare are a natural product range made in Australia created for those with skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis in mind, as well as those who are health conscious and care about what they are putting on their skin.
Despite the name, MooGoo actually has nothing to do with cows, however it is inspired by a product FOR cows!
MooGoo was created in 2005 by founder Craig Jones, who noticed his Mother was using a cream made for cows udders to soothe her psoriasis. Craig created a more human friendly formulation based on the cream, people loved it, word spread and the cream was dubbed ‘MooGoo’.
Now, MooGoo has expanded to include a full range of products including Eczema Cream, Gradual Tan, Suncare and Nappy Balm, and MooGoo is sold all over the world!
I’ve been using the moisturiser on both my body and face for about a month. I’ve had a bit of stress flaring things up during this lockdown, and we’ve had every weather possible to wreak havoc on my skin!
It’s very easy to apply and sinks in pretty quickly. It feels really soft when you’re rubbing it into skin – you can tell it’s high in oils if that makes sense? It’s a thicker consistency than some of the really thin lotions out there.
I actually wasn’t keen on the sweet smell at first but I have to say it’s an absolute delight compared to some of the medicated creams I’ve been using recently (does anyone else with eczema find themselves worrying people can smell the creams on them?). The main detectable scent is almond with a bit of vanilla.
This is thanks to the mixture of all edible oils in the moisturiser, including Almond Oil, Coconut Oil and Olive Oil plus skin friendly ingredients like Aloe Vera and honey. Although it does have food grade emulsifiers and wax in it, it’s free from paraffin, parabens and phenoxyethanol, as well as gluten and SLS free (the latter of which is super important for my skin!
I have to confess I don’t tend to think about how natural my skincare is normally, although I know a lot of people have the logic of not putting anything on your skin that you wouldn’t put in your mouth…if that makes sense?
Would I recommend MooGoo for eczema prone skin?
I’m so used to going with whatever a dermatologist has recommended, and I’m often cautious whenever it comes to the latest OMG YOU NEED TO TRY THIS skincare is. I would definitely recommend giving this moisturiser a go though, and I’m keen to have a go at some of the other products in the MooGoo catalogue.
So, what’s on my MooGoo shopping list?
My bathroom currently resembles a pharmacy/makeup shop, so I’m looking to use up a lot of stuff I’ve bulk bought on offer in the past – once that’s done though, there’s a couple of MooGoo products I’m super intrigued to try out.
Scalp Cream – As well as on my body, I often get eczema and super super dry skin on my scalp, so I’d be really intrigued to check this out. It’s suitable for dry skin around the scalp, ears, hairline, eyes and along the side of the nose.
Eczema Cream – while the MSM moisturiser was great for my eczema prone skin, I’d love to try the one specifically for the condition.
Sunscreen – there are very few sun creams that don’t make me itch, so I’d be really curious to see if MooGoo’s SPF30 Sun Cream is as comfortable to use as the moisturiser. They also do a gradual tanning cream!
Makeup! – I’m really picky with makeup, and very rarely wear foundation because of how sensitive my skin is. I was surprised to see MooGoo actually have a range of makeup including tinted moisturiser, foundation powder, bronzer, highlighter, eyeshadow and more!
Is MooGoo cruelty free?
MooGoo are a cruelty free brand and test on themselves, not on animals, which is great! There are vegan friendly products within the MooGoo range though not all of them are – you can however get the eczema cream, sun cream, scalp cream and more if you are vegan.
Is MooGoo suitable for sensitive skin?
That’s the point – it’s been made with us sensitive types in mind, that why I enjoyed using MooGoo for eczema prone skin on my arms and legs. We know how frustrating it can be for those with fussy skin that react to just about anything and everything. The MSM Moisturiser that I tried is full of oils that are high in the types of fatty acids that healthy skin needs and irritated skin loves. Then they added in as much MSM as possible – it’s a natural compound that contains the mineral sulphur, found in small quantities in fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and dairy foods, cereals and grains. Its thought to have anti-inflammatory properties (source) and is suitable for everyone and all skin types, including babies.
