Drinks packages can be a real worry to many when planning a cruise holiday – if you’re someone that likes a G&T of an evening but isn’t bothered about drinking all day, it can be difficult to find the value in daily drinks packages. Thankfully as of summer 2019, every Marella Cruise ship is All-Inclusive. This means you get an all-inclusive Marella Drinks package as standard, with a selection of draught beer and ciders, spirits and aperitifs, soft drinks by the glass, house wine and prosecco by the glass, as well as a range of cocktails all included in the price of your cruises.
However, Marella Cruises does also offer a Premium All Inclusive Drinks Package option on their cruises – if you’re particular about your brands, this is a really good option as you add brands like Bombay Sapphire, Jack Daniels and Absolut Vodka to your drinks options. There are also some premium cocktails to enjoy as well as coffees.
How much does it cost to upgrade to premium drinks package on Marella Cruises?
I’ve based this article on our January 2020 Tropical Delights cruise. We paid £50 per person for our premium drinks package when we booked our trip – we had a £150 discount code at the time of booking from sailing with Marella on their 90s themed Electric Sunsets cruise, so that covered it nicely!
Our cruise was for 7 nights, meaning our drinks package worked out at about £7.14 per night. Considering how much a cocktail costs, or a good double G&T, I don’t think this is bad at all, especially compared to other cruise lines! Of course the initial all inclusive is already in the price of your cruise, but it’s still less scary than that $55 a day Royal Caribbean charge for their unlimited drinks package!
If you decide halfway through the cruise to upgrade, we were offered the chance to do so for £10 a day.
What’s included in All Inclusive vs Premium All Inclusive?
Here’s a breakdown of the premium all inclusive drinks available on Marella Explorer 2 drinks menus. Drinks differ between bars (the bars are themed) but it should give you a good idea of if you think it’s worth upgrading your Marella drinks package. In my opinion, it’s definitely worth it – you only really need 2 or 3 drinks to get your monies worth! That being said, there is easily enough on the standard drinks package to keep you well watered!

Do Marella Cruises offer gluten free beer on board?
Sadly as of January 2020 Marella Cruises weren’t offering gluten free beer on board, however personally I found plenty of other drinks to enjoy!

Is bottled water included in Marella drinks packages?
Unfortuantely bottled water is not included in the standard all-inclusive drinks package or premium all-inclusive drinks package. A 500ml bottle of still or sparkling mineral water is £0.80, while a 1.5lt bottle of still or sparkling mineral water is £1.40.
Hot Beverages & Coffees
We spent quite a lot of time sitting in The Coffee Port (Deck 7 on Marella Explorer 2) – it’s a chilled area to enjoy a coffee, a good bit of air con and plenty of board games. We’re very competitive over Scrabble!
If you’re not a big boozer but enjoy a nice coffee, cold brew or hot chocolate, this is another drinking venue where you might get your money’s worth from a premium drinks package.
If you fancy something super indulgent you HAVE to try the Antica Cioccolata with a shot of Baileys liqueur in – so delicious!

Sadly I haven’t noticed any non-alcoholic wines or gins on Marella although they do have a range of mocktails across the ship
