About two years ago I got my butt into gear, started hitting the gym with a personal trainer and sorted out some of my bad eating habits. It did the job, I lost about two stone and dropped from a size 18 to a safe size 16 (sometimes a 14). After that whole quitting my job and travelling thing, I seriously fell off the wagon, ate and drank what I wanted and didn’t so much as look at a gym for the whole of 2018. Recently though, I’ve been wanting to get back on it and start to make some healthy changes. I’ve started seeing Johnny, my PT, again, but the diet thing has been harder. I recently was offered the chance to give the new Nutribuddy Shake Complete a go. Check out how it’s been going with my Nutribuddy Shake Complete Review.

Who are Nutribuddy?

Nutribuddy was set up by 19 year old Ella, who aimed to create a brand with products that put customers and the environment first. They claim to create products that customers will love, that are as eco-friendly and cruelty-free as possible and that have the best ingredients. Their website states that they try to use organic ingredients where possible and will only use ingredients of natural origin, with no artificial chemicals such as bulkers, preservatives and emulsifiers.

They’ve products out there including breakfast shakes, instant porridge and meal replacement shakes, along with some glossy reusable water bottles and shakers of course. Their newest product is the Nutribuddy Shake Complete, which claims to be a “delicious and complete meal in a shake….perfect when you need a grab ‘n’ go lunch or dinner.”

The taste

At the moment, Nutribuddy Shake Complete only comes in Vanilla – I’m not often keen on shakes, powders and the like but in terms of flavour this is certainly one of the nicer ones I’ve tried. The texture took a bit of getting used to – initially I wasn’t a huge fan. I’m used to protein shakes, where they’re a much finer powder that dissolves a bit more when shaken up. The oats in this, however, give it quite a thick consistency – kind of like you’re drinking the powdery left at the bottom of your box of cereal. It’s something you get to quite quickly though, and it’s the pleasant flavour that made drinking it bearable – reminds me a bit of muesli/granola type cereal flavours.

The packaging

It’s got to be said, the packaging is pretty gorgeous – the cardboard tub has got a very Instagrammable rose gold shimmer to it (which I believe is recyclable, but I’m going to reuse mine for bits and bobs on my desk at work). You can also choose to add either a Black or Pink shaker to your basket when ordering – I love the minimal design but I do wish the bottle had some sort of measurement markings on it to help when you’re adding milk or water (although you can use the letters to measure – fill up to the T to get 400ml)

Is Nutribuddy Shake Complete gluten free?

Nutribuddy Shake Complete is gluten free and vegan, however I’ll insert my usual disclaimer – I haven’t reacted to it but can’t guarantee it’ll be suitable for everyone gluten free, especially as the main component is gluten free oats – if you have a particular oat intolerance it might be an idea to avoid.

The shake certainly comes across as a lot more natural than some other similar products I’ve seen out there – with the ingredients label reading:

  • Gluten-Free Oats, Coconut Nectar Sugar Rice Protein
  • Ground Flaxseeds*
  • Pea Protein*
  • Desiccated Coconut*
  • Hemp Protein*
  • Chia Seeds*
  • Natural Flavourings
  • Pink Himalayan Rock Salt
  • Wild Blueberry Powder*
  • (*Organic)
  •

The label does also so say that some of the ingredients were packed in premises that carried allergens including gluten, so use your own judgement to decide whether this is for you.

Overall thoughts

I’m a bit torn at the idea of using it as a meal replacement as it’s something I think people can use for the wrong reasons, however for me, it’s been really useful on days in my new job when I’ve needed to eat ‘al desco’ or just don’t really feel like eating. The oats certainly help to keep you full, and I’ve been managing to go the full afternoon without snacking, which is rare for me! I have lost a pound or two being on it however because I’m working out with my PT it’s hard to attribute that just to the shake – I’m sure however if you were only making this change for healthy weight loss you’d see a difference. I used a two week supply and while I do think I’d buy it again, I wouldn’t necessarily have it for lunch every single day.
